Springing Into Term 5 at Aspire Farm School

There’s a buzz in the air (and more than a few joyful baa’s and bleats!) as spring arrives in full bloom across our Aspire Farm School campuses. Term 4 was bursting with energy, learning, and growth—not just in our gardens, but in our students too and we are ready to start the first summer term!

New Arrivals & Animal Adventures

Over at the Hale Farm campus, it’s been a season of new beginnings. We’ve welcomed some playful new kid goats, bringing laughter and time wasting and I’m sure with students back this coming week, plenty of goat cuddles to our days. A new addition to the team, Peggy the pig, has also stolen hearts. She’s settling in beautifully, and students have loved taking her on leisurely walks across the farm—enjoying the sunshine, sniffs, and snuffles of spring together.

Lambing is now well underway at both South Brockwells and at Hale Farm and over the coming weeks, students will gain hands-on experience supporting ewes through births and caring for newborn lambs. We are also thrilled to have lambs visiting The Macs Farm campus in the coming weeks—a highlight that’s sure to bring joy and learning for everyone involved.

Learning in Bloom: Gardens & Growing

Our school gardens are now in full swing, with students learning all about what plants need to thrive. From prepping soil and planting seeds to understanding the importance of sunlight, water, and patience, our young farmers are developing not just gardening skills, but a real appreciation for where food comes from.

Showtime: Pygmy Goat Prep

In preparation for the upcoming Spring Live agricultural show at the South of England Showground, students have been working hard to prepare their pygmy goats for showing. This means learning about grooming, leading, and presenting the goats in the ring with care and confidence. It’s a true test of teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail—and we couldn’t be prouder of the dedication our learners have shown.

Project Build-Up

Term 5 also sees the launch of an exciting new initiative at the Mac’s Farm campus in Ditchling—Project Build-Up. This hands-on pilot project is all about giving students the chance to develop real trade skills through practical activities such as fencing, building raised beds, laying a patio, and creating a brand-new space for our pigs.

Not only will this enhance our learning spaces, but it’ll give students the chance to build confidence, resilience, and valuable experience that’s transferable to future work opportunities. Keep an eye on our social media for updates from Team Build-Up as the projects start rolling!

Enterprise in Action: Flower Displays for The Macs Farm Open Day

Speaking of The Macs Farm, we’re also busy preparing for their upcoming Open Day—a fantastic community event packed with fun, food, and farm experiences. Our students have been working on an enterprise project, designing and creating beautiful flower displays amongst other things to sell on the day. From selecting blooms to arranging them with care, it’s a great opportunity to learn about business, marketing, and presentation—all while adding a little colour to the farm.
